Club Sportivo Miramar Misiones (Uruguay)

Based in the capital Montevideo, Miramar Misiones are the product of the merging of two popular local clubs, Miramar and Misiones, in the summer of 1980. Rather sweetly the club kept on the colours of both clubs, with Miramar's smart black and white pinstripes the home kit, and Misiones Milan-alike red and black used in all away games.

But as we're most interested in the black and white half of the team, Miramar were formed way back in 1906, and have had some little success in their own right. They won the Segunda División Uruguay in both 1942 and 1953 - a title they've since added to one more time in their post-merger form, in 1986. However, last season they made it back to the top flight, and are just about to embark on a potentially exciting new term ahead - especially as they'll be playing city rivals and fellow stripes Montevideo Wanderers this time around.

They play in the slightly crumbly Parque Luis Méndez Piana, which can hold a mere 6000 punters. Noteworthy old boys include Fabián Yantorno, who had brief spells at Gretna, Hibs and Chester City, Porto's Álvaro Pereira, who scored against his South African hosts in the recent World Cup and Juan Carlos Calvo, who was in the winning Uruguayan squad in the first ever World Cup final in 1930.
