Wakehurst are a team from Ballymena who play in the IFA Championship 2, the third level of football in Northern Ireland. Formed in 1969, they used to play on the Ballymena Showgrounds Pitch 2, which backed onto the ground of Premier League favourites Ballymena United. However, they had to move in 2009, as the pitch wasn't seemed suitable for the league.
So at the moment they share with Tobermore United, but with a view to moving in with Moyola Park at their spanking new Mill Meadow ground when it's finally built. Their fans though still think this is too far from Ballymena, as they're not too happy about the 40 mile round trip required to attend home matches, But their future in the Irish League depends on them continuing to play on an appropriate ground, which shy of sharing with Ballymena United isn't looking likely for a while.
The club have played happily along through their 40 odd years in football with little in the way of trophies coming their way. They started life in the Ballymena & District league before moving onto the Northern Amateur league, stepping up to their current level in 2003. In fact the only bit of silverware in their cabinet is the County Antrim Junior Shield that they won in 1990.

Long time since I have read so much inaccuracy being pedalled as fact.
ReplyDeleteWhen Wakehurst celebrated their first 25 years as a club in 1994, they published a magazine. It listed the honours up to that year. The list was five leagues titles, more than 20 knock-out cups, two County Antrim Junior Shield wins (first in 1982) and the Tri-Sport Trophy twice - for being highest goalscorers across all divisions in the Northern Amateur League in their first two seasons in the league... "played happily... through 40 odd years... with little in the way of trophies" . Complete and utter nonsense and totally inaccurate.
Alternatively you could have been polite and quietly put me right. I'm only learning from the general sources available on the internet, and am happy to be corrected by people more expert on a club than I. Just a shame you had to be so rude and unpleasant about it.
ReplyDeleteRude? I have merely pointed out that what you have written as fact is not correct. Why have you not checked your facts before publishing them as facts online?
DeleteI refer you to my previous answer, and am once again disappointed by your uppity attitude in what is an otherwise very agreeable little community of brother stripes.
ReplyDeleteI am but a mere blogging enthusiast rather than any kind of de facto world authority on the subject. Strange that you should get so cross about it all when a simple kind word would have put things right.
Takes all sorts, I guess.
Including bloggers with little regard for facts. These are the facts folks... errr maybe not!
ReplyDeleteHow did you get to be so rude? Bless your angry little heart!
ReplyDeleteHow about correcting your original copy or is that too much like proper research. Inaccurate for nearly five years.Writer and broadcaster... bless.
ReplyDeletePerhaps you could offer some friendly advice as to where I've gone wrong, and provide me with the necessary information to get the item right - especially as you appear to have plenty of close hand knowledge of the club.
